Schizophrenia

Watched a movie that I've never seen or heard of before. It's good. There something simple about it. Statewide. With Rachael Leigh Cook and Jonathan Tucker. 2004.

I change rotations tomorrow. It'll be my first hospital month. Hope it goes well. I drove through the medical center the other day. I hadn't been there in a while. It was odd.

Here's a couple new sayings for me

Financial Rule #7.

Don't steal from tommorow to pay for today.
In other words, don't steal from your retirement
to pay your current debts and expenses.

I finished my planting. Boxes are all unpacked, except for a few in my brother's room--his job. Garage is cleared out. One room is getting some paint. YAY, I'm practically all moved in.

Fun News on Tom Cruise.

Cnn.com has a video that just reminds us that we have not seen Tom and Kate's baby. There is a birth certificate. The birth certificate was signed by a registered nurse who was not at the delivery and an unidentified friend of Kate and Tom. Interesting... Of course, the video goes on to state, they are probably just shielding the baby from the papparatzi.

TV can be a remarkable teacher

I start seeing patients in my clinic on Monday. The computer problem has been resolved. I saw my first patients as an MD on Thursday. I did Diabetes Clinic in the morning. Then, had an OSCE. And then, I was on-call that evening.

I was watching Discovery Channel Health right now and there was a medical student from Houstonwith Treacher Collins Syndrome being featured. She just graduated from UT-H medical school and is doing a med/peds residency. I found this enlightening. Because of the facial abnormalities, I wondered if the syndrome affected mental capacity. Apparently not :) Here's her info:

PS. As of 8:30pm, I still have no patients for this coming week.

Clinic Month & House Fire.

My first rotation happens to be Clinic. I was happy about this news. It means that I will have a light month. 9-5 days. I'll slowly adjust to working again. Eventhough its a slow start, I'd like to get started.

Monday I went to work and found that I had no patients scheduled for me for the entire month. Turns out it was a complicated computer problem involving giving the graduating residents the boot and entering in the newbies. Today, the forces above me are working on it but it may be a few days before I get patients to see.

Weird news. My old apartment burned yesterday morning about 10am-ish. Luckily, I had just completed my move out this past weekend. My brother and I went to go see the damage. The apartment was still smoking when we visited. Our neighbor's apt. was charred to a point that nothing remained. I was told furniture and flames were flying out of the windows. Our stairs were burned down. The roofs were burned open. It was a close call for my brother and I. Had he and I still lived there we could have lost all our belongings. Almost everyone was safe and accounted for. One person was missing. The two tuxedo kittens may have passed away. Poor babies.

Work?

Oh, this was great.

We were all talking about what we wanted to do in the future. Of course, one person says "care for the underserved" or "international medicine." I say join a group practice. One girl says in a sugary sweet voice, "oh, I don't know if I'm gonna work."
