I saw something new and unusual today. Instead of hearing about how obese the American population is, the headline read "Women with very low body-mass index not allowed on runway." This is new. Spanish models weren't allowed to model if their BMI's were below 18. I think that's a pretty reasonable cut off.
I bet that only 1-2 % of the United States population has a BMI below 18, including anorexics and people with cachexia due to medically related illnesses. I looked up a BMI for my height, 5 ft 2in. To have a BMI of 18 or below at 5ft 2in, a person must weigh less than 100 lbs.
Should people with BMI's below 18 be thrown off the runaway? or do you feel they should be force fed to achieve a BMI of 18? or maybe throw them off the planet? :)
